TinyJohn FAQs

How does a waterless incinerating toilet work?

What is an incinerator toilet and how does it work in real-world use?
It's a waterless toilet solution that burns all waste into a small amount of ash. No connection to septic or sewer is required.
How does the cost of installing an incinerator toilet compare to composting or traditional septic systems?
The cost of an incinerator toilet is about $3,000-$5,000 depending on model. A septic can be far more than that depending on location. A composting toilet is typically cheaper but it does not incinerate the waste
How often do you have to empty the ash tray in an incinerator toilet?
Depends on usage, in general, once per 2-3 weeks if you use it freaquently. If the ash level starts to build up, it's better to clean it out for more efficiency.
Does an incinerator toilet smell?
During operation, there could be a slight burning smell outside the vent (no sewage smell), but if installation is done properly, there should be no smell inside the bathroom. The TinyJohn gas and electric models are also equipped with a catalytic converter that cleans the air before it gets vented out.
Which is better: electric or gas incinerator toilet?
The best incinerating model depends on application and usage. For example, in a remote off-grid cabin or RV, the propane gas model is usually a better option since it can run off a 12VDC battery. If there is stable 120V or 240VAC power, a TinyJohn electric model is a great option.
